To understand the history of the Cathar
is to go back about 2000 years, when an
individual known as Yeshua travelled widely
upon the earth, embracing various and
unique philosophies, cultures and religions.
As a result of his childhood training through
his mother, an Essene woman, he was open
to the "essence" of Spirit and was a lover
of Love. Today, we know this man as Jesus.
The Cathar experienced a relationship to
the teacher Yeshua and his wife, known as
Magdalene, his female equivalent.
The people of Southern France
embrace the Magdalene and even celebrate
her day on July 22 each year. Twenty two
is believed in spiritual traditions to be a
divine feminine number as 11 is the master
number of Yeshua.
There is a widespread belief in the
region of Southern France and also among
many mystics, channellers and psychics
that Yeshua and Magdalene and a group
of adults and children arrived in Gaul, or
the modern day Provence coast on the
Mediterranean, escaping the Romans after
the so called crucifixion. The acceptance of
this alternative version of history alone is
anathema to the entire teaching of modern

to speak with equal standing to men.'
Christianity. To this day, this alternative
version of history provokes outrage from
many Christians and non-Christians alike.
It is thus understood among these
"alternative" thinkers that Yeshua and the
small group were the founders of Cathar, a
name given to them by others who knew
them to be the pure ones, the good men
and good women, the compassionate
healers, who absolutely had a connection
to Spirit in all things. These people were
teachers who held communal space in
circles -- with the inherent lack of hierarchy
-- allowing women to speak with equal
standing to men. They loved with an
understanding of the impersonal nature
of Love. They understood that through
practice of meditation, connection to earth,
cosmos and the body, and also through
humility, they would end the recurring
cycles of what Buddhists term samsara,
or cycles of suffering, and live the true
purpose of life which is joy!
The crusader s, their hor ses, their dogs,
and their flags, tr umpeted their ominous task
to destroy the peace loving Cathar. Their eyes
looked upwards to a relatively small stone
building atop the pog. A Christian messenger
presented a note to the elder s within the
community, imploring, "Surrender your beliefs
and fall to your knees before the Catholic
Church or your fate will be to burn at the
stake." Days later, in the evening, roughly 220
Cathar perfecti -- those who had taken the
rite of consolamentum -- made their choice
to recant and began a slow and deliberate
march to the pyre, now called "the field of the
burned". It is the tale of the region that states;
you could hear them singing their sweet and
sorrowful song as one by one their lives were
ended in fire...
...it is also under stood that on that
par ticular night three dear Cathar faithful -- a
man, a woman and a 12 year old boy -- escaped
through suppor t of elders, from Montségur into
the forest below. It was their task to carr y and
keep safe the writings of Yeshua and Magdalene
and also other priceless treasures for future
generations to know the personal relationship
to "awakening" to the way of Spirit.
There is much more to explore around
the Cathar. Modern day Languedoc was the
setting for the Christian crusades against
these Spiritualists. The caves alone tell the
tales of the besieged and their meditation
places speak across the centuries of their
rich connection to land.
