'That was one of the key turning points for me because from that
day everything I do is about giving people hope.'
CAB AUDITED FOR INTEGRITY
herself of lymphatic cancer.
"I started reading it and I thought:
wow, this is amazing," says Mark. He
immediately turned to the Internet for
"I actually jumped on the Internet
to see if there was a DVD so I wouldn't
have to read the whole book!" he laughs.
"Unfortunately there wasn't a DVD."
But he did find a Theta practitioner
and a few days later went for a consultation.
The results for Mark were dramatic. "At
the end of that consultation half the pain
in my back was gone."
In his view, everything that happens
to us has an emotional cause. In the year
prior to his illness, Mark had been thinking
about his father who had passed when
Mark was just 16. As Mark approached his
32nd birthday, his Dad was on his mind. "I
remember thinking that I'd been without
him longer than I'd been with him."
Growing up in a loving Catholic
family, Mark's life had been rosy until his
father 's sudden death. "I came home from
school one day and he'd had a massive
heart attack and that was it."
Noticing many cars around his house,
the teenage Mark sensed some calamity
had befallen his family. As he went to
his Mum a friend of the family advised,
"Mark, you have to be strong for your
mother." "Not knowing what had actually
happened, all I've got inside my head
is I've got to be strong for my mother. I
guess from that I actually suppressed a
lot of my own grief."
To Mark's great surprise, what came
up during his initial Theta session
was resentment towards his father. "If
somebody had told me before that point
that I resented my father I would have
laughed. "What had actually happened
was that over the years after his passing I
always used to say to people there was
so much more he had to teach me. A
harmless statement, but if you keep
repeating that to yourself, it creates the
energy of expectation. Over time, it built
up and became resentment because I
The following day, which was a Friday,
Mark began the three day Advanced Theta
Class and by the end of it his life had truly
"That Sunday I remember going
home and my daughter running up to me
saying, 'Daddy, carry me'. My wife was
freaking out but I knew I could. I picked
her up and never looked back. It was just
such an incredible feeling."
Mark believes that his initial consult-
ation healed the infection because, he
believes, infection has a lot to do with
resentment. The Advanced Theta class
healed his bones.
"The human body is just incredible. It
heals itself as long as we give it the right
environment to do so."
This is the basis of the Theta healing
technique: teaching people how to heal
themselves. When the founder of Theta
healing, Vianna Stibel, was diagnosed
with lymphatic cancer it didn't respond to
Having studied naturopathy, Vianna
tried various remedies and cleanses
without success. As a single mother of
three children she had a powerful motive
to live. Vianna was also deeply spiritual
and believed that God could heal
One day, when her aunt was sick
with stomach cramps, Vianna intuitively
prayed for a healing; her aunt recovered.
The next day, a man with back pain was
also healed spontaneously. There are
parallels with Mark's story as Vianna
promised God: 'If you can heal me, I
will help people.' Today she travels to
different countries keeping her promise.
Theta healing is so named because
when Vianna communicates with God,
requesting a healing, her brain operates
on a Theta rhythm. This was later proven
by scientific tests.
For Mark, the changes wrought in
him physically and mentally were nothing
short of miraculous.
"My family and friends were looking
at me because a week and a half earlier
I was half dead," he chuckles. "All of a
sudden I am looking better than I've
ever looked! I became really busy doing
healings for family and friends."
In this euphoric period while
considering his future, he learned that
Vianna Stibel was coming to Australia to
conduct Theta instructor training.
"I remember saying I have to meet
the woman who gave me my life back. I
wasn't going there to become a teacher."
Nevertheless, having personally
experienced the potential of Theta
healing, it was inevitable that Mark would
become a Theta instructor. "I was excited
about life and I knew what it could do," he
said.Nowadays, Mark works with people
with different physical and emotional
conditions. He recalls the case of a man
with a bulging disc in his lower back. The
doctors had surgically removed the disc
and fused the vertebrae together, but he
was suffering constant sciatic pain.
"We did a session and just worked
on all his emotional issues. At the end of
the session he was looking at me almost
with shock and said, 'Mark I can't feel any
pain.'" He then stood up, bent over and
touched his toes.
"A few days later," Mark continues, "his
wife rang up concerned for her husband.
He wanted to play soccer again! That
was four years ago; he is playing soccer.
He is fine!"
Although it took a potentially fatal
illness, today Mark feels he is living a
richly rewarding life, whereas before he
"When I walked out of hospital that
first time, after spending a number of
weeks inside, just feeling the sun on my
skin brought me to tears," he says.
"If we spend our time in gratitude,
focusing on what we do have as opposed
to what we don't, our lives will be
