Home' Nova National : May 2011 Contents betterment? I don't think so. But it's
important to understand whether you
do so because of inner cravings to be or
to have what someone else has, or to
achieve because you want someone to
be proud of you and look up to you. Or
whether you come from a position of
integrity with your inner self.
Your home is a sanctuary and can be
a reflection of how you feel and relate
to life on an internal level. Ideally, your
living environment should support you
on all levels so you can live your life with
a true sense of purpose and contentment.
The Feng Shui of a home will reflect
your journey. At the same time, it offers
the opportunity to bring about positive
change to improve specific aspects of
your life where you simply want or know
you can do better.
When we live our lives in balance we
are filled with contentment and abund-
ance. The three main facets of life that
need to be considered are your physical
There is a true exquisiteness and
a high level of fulfilment that
emanates from within when you
are truly content with life, with
what you have and who you are.
As a goal oriented person, as someone
who likes a challenge, who enjoys the
journey of learning and who always strives
for the next goal, I'm sometimes seen
as not being content with my life, my
achievements and what I already have. This
is so far from the truth as I'm extremely
content and happy with what I have and,
in particular, with who I am. The journey
and the fun of learning, trying, striving,
attaining is something that will always be
with me. I certainly hope so, as I see it
as part of the joy that comes with being
alive, fit and well.
So contentment isn't a matter of
being satisfied with your situation in life
and never trying to improve it -- at least,
certainly not as far as I'm concerned. It's
a matter of being content with what you
have, but also realising and accepting that
as human beings, most of us will always
try to improve, tweak, learn and enhance
ourselves in some way, no matter how
happy we are. In this way, we keep the
sweetness in life.
But true contentment only comes
by living in integrity with the essence of
who we are -- in other words, being true
to ourselves. I have lived most of my
adult life in this way and for this reason
alone, I feel incredibly fortunate. I have
been true to myself in my career, with my
family and in my relationships in general.
Sure, there've been times I haven't always
handled challenges with the grace and
poise I would have liked, but I strive to
better my management of these times.
There have even been periods when I've
strayed from my path, but again I learn
and I get back on course.
Is it so bad to have these goals of

and emotional health, loving relationships
and financial wellbeing, with the most
important of these being your health and
vitality. Without good health and abundant
energy it is truly difficult to attain balance
in the other aspects of life.
Interestingly, from a Feng Shui
perspective, to enjoy good health and
revel in fulfilling and loving relationships
we address the same area, the bedroom
of the home. It is understood that without
good health it then becomes very difficult
(but not impossible for an elite few) to
maintain quality and joyous relationships.
Also, without your health it is difficult
to maintain your status quo in the office
environment, let alone having your career
blossom and flourish so that you can
delight at the extra dollars in your pay
packet. Without good health, money is
more likely to flow into the coffers of the
pharmaceutical companies -- not your
It is therefore doubly important to
ensure that your bedroom is well placed
within the design parameters of your
home environment. But if this is not
possible, then at the very least apply some
Feng Shui principles to the interior design
of your bedroom.
The Feng Shui bedroom will help to
nourish and renew your body and soul.
When you incorporate Feng Shui into
your bedroom, you are nurturing yourself
by utilising the natural elements of the
There are many components to the
Feng Shui bedroom, but they basically
include correct furniture placement,
colour, reduction of sharp angles,
eliminating mirrors and ensuring that the
bedroom is most often used for rest and
relaxation rather than for exercise and
completing work commitments.
To accomplish the right balance it
is important to place your furniture,
especially your bed, in the correct
position. Within the Feng Shui bedroom,
the bed is always placed so that the
bedhead is against a solid wall. This
minimises the movement of energies so
that you can have a restful night's sleep.
But also, it provides support, protection
The importance of creating positive
influences in a place where you are likely
to spend at least one third of your life
cannot be underestimated. If you want
to create positive changes in the areas of
health and relationships, one of the first
steps you should take is to have a good
Feng Shui bedroom.
