ebruary is with us once more and
it’s time to get back to our real lives
a fter the summer holiday s ea son.
This year has probably been hotter
than most in your part of Australia but even
so it’s always sad to see those long lazy days
come to an end. And even more so when you
know you’re not following your true calling.
If you feel that sen se of ennui, maybe
it’s time to pay heed to your inner voic e, the
one you’ve been “shutting up” for too long.
That’s the me ssage of ‘L ove and Compassion’
in our issue this month. David Arenson,
who always ha s a thoughtful offering, give s
us a timely reminder that it’s not money
and all the striving entailed that ma kes us
happy. R ather, it’s the time and energy we
devote to sharing our love a nd showing our
compa ssion for others that brings a smile to
our face. It’s only when we lift our nos e from
the grindstone and take the time to connect
with those around us – e ven just a friendly
email or a cheery hello to a fellow walker
ca n ma ke a difference – that life regains
its buzz . Just yesterday a woman sitting
next to me at the movie s c omplimented
me on my perfume – Beautiful as it turns
out. Such a sponta neous generous c omment
is special, a lways . So in this month of love
with Valentine’s Day on its way, let’s a ll try
to spread a bit more of it around. We’ll be
happier for it!
Another hangover from the festive
season could well be a grumpy digestive
system. You’ve probably heard the phrase
“Fair, fat and forty” to describe the standa rd
profile of a woman with a gall bladder
problem. It’s a vivid indication of just how
many women suffer this disorder. But a s
naturopath Margaret Jasinska tell s u s,
natural treatments and some simple fresh
food s ca n work wonders and remove the
need for surgery, which is so often the first
resort rather than the la st.
On the subject of b oosting your digestive
health, our reg ular naturopath Lyn Craven
takes a look at Fatty Liver Disease. It sounds
scary but once again a long hard look at
cleaning up our lifestyle and diet can make
a substa ntial difference. It seems to fall into
that basket that’s groaning under the ever-
increasing load of lifestyle diseases and we
really only have ourselves to blame.
A couple of celebratory notes to finish
2014 ushers in the Chinese Year of the
Horse, a n anima l a ssociated with energ y,
generosity and ability, so that augurs well!
And can there be anyone who doesn’t love
hors es ? Celebration s this year extend into
early February so Kung Hei Fat Choy and
have f un.
And then in March, we at NOVA celebrate
21 yea rs in publishing with Issue No 234!
It’s been an amazing journey since our early
days in Frema ntle, still home to many of our
most loya l supporters. Thes e days we have
