The free trees will be available at Sydney
Park on Saturday March 29 from 10a m to
2pm. Residents can apply online a nd bring
a long a rates notice or proof of residenc y on
The tree giveaway is part of the City of
Sydney’s work to incre a se the city’s urban
canopy by 50% by 2030.
Residents can sign up for a sma ll,
medium or large tree and choice of native,
exotic, deciduous or e vergreen specie s.
There is a limit of two trees per household
a nd up to five trees for strata properties ,
schools , c om munities and public housing
developments. Applications for the free trees
should b e submitted by Wednesday March
19 and are on a ‘first come first serve’ basis.
The trees can be picked up at Sydney
Park’s Park Road entrance, where City staff
will be on hand with a free barbecue and
advice about how to plant the trees.
“ Trees make our streets more be autiful
as well as improve air quality and provide
habitat for birds and animals,” said Lord
Mayor Clover Moore.
“The City has planted 9,719 trees since
2005. We already have around 42,000 trees
in our streets and parks across the city, and
we’re planning for many more. Now we are
enc ouraging residents to join our efforts by
providing free trees for their backyard.”
